1. How long do I have to complete a patrol?
You have 3 weeks from the start of the current patrol.
2. Can I go back and makeup a missed patrol?
No, once the patrol is done, the war continues.
3. Can I transfer to a new U-Flottille?
Yes, however you will need to make a request to your current Uflottillenchef.
4. Can I have more than one Captain?
Yes, please refer to the guideline at the Multiple Commanders page.
5. What happens when my captain dies?
Refer to the Multiple Commanders page.
6. Do I have to play on Maximum realism?
Yes, everything should be checked, however you have the option to use manual TDC or not. Also when deciding on going maual TDC and still feel insecure we recommend beginning with "Map Contacts" ON in order to gain experience and turning it to OFF when feeling ready. If running auto TDC (not recommended) "Map Contacts" must be OFF at all time.
To conclude the WaW experience is about immersion using realism as the key factor...
7. Do I have to sail to my assigned patrol area and then back to port?
Yes, you must complete the entire patrol, no warping back to port.
8. Do I have to complete every patrol?
No, you can take breaks or if life gets in the way, take a leave of absence. You must inform
your uflottillenchef that you are taking a leave of absence.
9. If I die, do I have to do the training mission again?
No, you only have to do them the first time you join WaW.
10. How and where do I have to register to participate in Wolves at War III?
You will need to start by reading the Take Command - Step by Step Guide for New Members page.
11. How long does it take before I am assigned to a flotilla and go on my first patrol?
This could take up to 3 or 4 days, but normally it should take less.
12. Do I have to select an actual uboat commander's name, such as I might find on Uboat.net?
No, however we recommend that you do by going to the uboat.net commander page.
We do not allow nicknames like "Silent Killer etc..", those type applications will be rejected.
13. Which mods and supermods are allowed?
We allow GWX and NGYM. Current versions are GWX 2.1 or 3.0 & NYGM 3.0-3.1
OLC:s GUI for manual targeting is also allowed and warmly recommended.
14. Is external camera allowed for taking screenshots?
Yes, however you must not use the external camera for tactical advantage. Remember realism and immersion is the key.
15. How do I gain rank?
You gain rank by you actions as well as your successes on patrol and your overall participation at WaW. Rank is decided at the discretion of BdU, not SHIII.
16. How do I win awards?
The awards criteria can be found on the Awards page. These are the guidelines we follow. The awards are given via the flotilla commander, not SHIII. All Orders of the Knights Cross, are awarded at the discretion of BdU.
17. Do captains in Wolves at War play in a manner that allows them to get 100k per patrol?
No, at Wolves at War we try to use realistic operational procedures, so the 100K patrol is not attainable. However each commander following our rules for realistic play can obtain high scores if experienced and skilled. Each case is carefully monitored by the Flottillie commanders.
18. Do we use the Enigma Simulator?
This has been asked numerous times, it is not feasible so no.
19. Are debates about who plays the most realistically or who is the best uboot captain tolerated?
No, WaW staff makes this determination and then implements procedures and directives to support it.
